From http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/downloads/powertoys/xppowertoys.mspx Note: We take great care to ensure that PowerToys work as they should, but they are not part of Windows and are not supported by Microsoft. For this reason, Microsoft Technical Support is unable to answer questions about PowerToys. PowerToys are for Windows XP only. PowerToys only work with U.S. English regional settings. From the software: use animations shared desktops show quick switch buttons don't understand it, but for some reason, it minimizes windows when you switch desktops. For example, I had PSPad open on desktop 4. I switched to desktop 2 and PSPad was minimized above the start menu. Very strange. I restored it and clicked the preview button and now PSPad was on two desktops. Strange. Not sure yet if it is good or bad. Seems clunky. And why was PSPad minimized about the Start menu and not into the task bar. It goes there when I click the minimize button. having different backgrounds for each desktop works but there is no option to scale the image - just center, stretch, and tile. (Experiments reveal that "stretch" also covers "shrink") the MSVDM does not integrate into the control panel at all.
